{0.3} Hollow Form Object Concepts
Admittedly, Rhino was not cooperating with me much during this project. I started with a simple twisted star and that went well, same with the second, the cheese string, but the snake was the start of my problems.
Eventually, I figured out that drawing a tight spiral myself would be so much easier if I used the helix tool, and eventually used fillet to taper a lofted tail and make the head more organic.
After I got increasingly more comfortable with Rhino's tools, I got more detailed and creative. under the assumption that anything more steep than 45 degree angle was the steepest I could possibly do, I used fillet to try and keep angles to hold up roofs without supports, such as the Alice in Wonderland inspired spiral and the rain lamp inspired models.
Admittedly, most, if not all models need many modifications to bring them to the final product.
My first try, admittedly very simple and would have to add something to make it more distinct.
The Cheese String:
A fun step up from the spiral but suffers from the same issue of not being distinct if its colors are taken away.
A cute little guy, wish I could make his face more detailed but was not able to with my current skill set, however I feel that I was able to make him look enough like a snake even with the limitations.
The favorite child. I adore this design but figured from when i started that it would have to be printed in two pieces and the base and top needs to be chamfered to make the overhang angle less than 45 degrees. Normally, rain lamps have a intricate statue in the middle, so instead I made a simple twist similar to my first model that has the added bonus of adding more support. my only worry is if the white tubes will be to delicate or not.
Alice In Wonderland (my hell on earth)
The difficult one. Probably the strongest in visual design, but would be the most difficult to model for one specific reason, The Stairs. the door and mirrors went smoothly, nothing I hadn't done before, but the stairs, oh god the stairs. The first boulder to overcome was the roof of the stairs and how keep them up with supports, that would be easily solved by poles on each side and the middle with arches between each poles and lofts between those, but the camera angles and trying to get the right angle was the biggest pain for me while making this, but eventually I came out of it alive, but just barely before finishing it off with a small twist, to empathize the falling aspect of falling into wonderland.
